"Wild in Bloom" - Original Woodburned Artwork
Wildness exists in all of us. I remember spending hours as a kid looking at the details of the flowers blooming around where I sat in the dirt. There’s something about the details and intricate lines found in the patterns and shapes, so many tiny details that make up the wild bloom.
I love any kind of native flora, but this particular piece was envisioned to be an ode to all of those details that surround the bloom that lies close to the ground. When you look closely, all the pieces add up to one entire ecosystem, all working together.
Sometimes I feel like I’m that way. We’re taught to see ourselves as all right, all wrong, or all broken. But when you think about it, we’re made up of billions of tiny pieces, all working together with our environment. In that, I find wildness. Everything that makes up who I am as a person is a functioning piece of me, I’ll never be entirely thriving nor entirely failing. My pieces are in a constant state of ebb and flow, never stagnant but always learning.
When I look at this artwork, the blooming flower reflects my own details back to me. The ones I’ve always known and seen immediately like the patterns highlighted amongst the petals, and the ones that I discovered in the perfect angle of sunlight later on like the subtle stones and patterning of the environment and background that this bloom is growing.
